Goggins Mode: The AI That Forces You To Work Out

A free tool that freezes Claude until you do your reps on camera. It locks your screen at random and won't let you work until you work out. Here's the exact setup.

Turn Claude into a drill sergeant that freezes your screen at random and won't let you work until you do your reps on camera. One repo, one command. Free and open source: it locks your prompts and counts your reps on your webcam.

What You'll Learn

  • The idea: gate the tool you work in, so you can't work until you work out
  • The one-repo install (plus the plugin route)
  • How /goggins screens you and runs random challenges all day
  • The tuning commands: challenge frequency, mode, reps, global gate, and the escape hatch

The Idea

Every other AI fitness demo just builds you a plan you ignore by Wednesday. This one gates the thing you work in: Claude won't answer your prompt until you've done your reps, counted live on your webcam. Since Claude is how a lot of us work all day, you literally can't work until you work out. It kicks you into moving all day long.

  • Free, open-source: install the repo, type /goggins
  • Locks your prompts and counts your reps on your webcam
  • Lunges, thrusters, burpees, picked at random, 15 each
  • An end-of-day rep report so you see what you actually did

What it's built on: Goggins Mode is a fork of a free open-source tool called workout-gate by BotchetDig. All the gate mechanics and pose detection are theirs. Goggins Mode adds the /goggins command, the lunges/thrusters/burpees set, the random challenge, the rep report, and the David-Goggins voice.

Step 1: Install It (One Repo)

Clone the repo and run the installer. It sets up everything (the gate, the camera model, the /goggins command, your exercises) and runs a 30-second wizard so macOS asks for camera permission now, not mid-prompt.

git clone https://github.com/coopersimson96/goggins-mode.git
cd goggins-mode && ./install.sh

Run the installer with its global option if you want the gate available in every Claude session (the installer's help text shows the flag).

/plugin install goggins-mode@goggins-mode

The full repo (install, the /goggins command, the exercises, and the rep report) lives at github.com/coopersimson96/goggins-mode. Star it so you can find it later.

Step 2: Run /goggins

In Claude Code, type /goggins. The first time, it screens you like a real trainer: your goal, your level, and which moves it's allowed to make you do. After that, just work. At random intervals it locks your prompts, opens your webcam, and won't let you keep going until you finish the reps.

  1. Type /goggins. It screens you and configures the gate to match
  2. Work like normal. At random, it locks Claude and makes you earn the next prompt
  3. Do the reps on camera. Pose detection counts them. Close the tab and they still follow you
  4. Check your day. Run "workout report" for today's reps per exercise + total + streak

Step 3: Tune It

  • workout set time 40 : one challenge at most every 40 min (the daily driver)
  • workout set mode random|choice|circuit : one random | you pick | all of them
  • workout set reps lunges 15 15 : size any exercise to you
  • workout global on : gate every Claude session
  • workout off : escape hatch (fail-open, you can never lock yourself out)

One honest caveat: the webcam can only count moves it has a pose-detector for. Lunges and thrusters reuse the squat counter and count cleanly. Burpees count loosely, so finish each with a deep squat and a full stand.
