Remotion is a video framework that turns Claude into a video editor. One install command and Claude can create, edit, and render full videos for you in real time: product demos, app walkthroughs, social ads, explainers, and reel edits, with no editing software.

What You'll Learn

  • The full step-by-step Remotion setup walkthrough
  • My favourite prompts for different video types
  • How to turn any website into a product demo video

Setting Up Remotion In Claude Code

  1. Install Claude Code. If you don't have it yet:
npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code
  1. Install the Remotion skill. Go to the Remotion website and copy the one-line install command. Paste it into Claude Code. The skill sets up the entire video editing environment automatically.

  2. Verify the setup. Ask Claude to create a simple test video. If the Remotion studio opens in your browser with a preview, you're ready to go.

Why Remotion is different: Remotion lets Claude create and edit videos in real time. Claude writes the code, sees the result instantly, and iterates until it looks right. This feedback loop is what makes the output actually good.

How To Use It

The workflow is simple. Tell Claude what kind of video you want and give it a few reference documents. Claude does the rest.

  1. Tell Claude what you want. Describe the video type: product demo, app walkthrough, social ad, explainer, or reel/short edit.
  2. Give it reference material. Share your product overview document, a link to your website, screenshots of your app, or whatever content you want in the video. The more context Claude has, the better the output.
  3. Let Claude build it. Claude creates the video and you watch it in real time through the Remotion preview. Give feedback like "make the transition faster" or "add sound effects" and Claude adjusts in seconds.
  4. Render and download. When you're happy, Claude renders the final video file. The whole process takes about 5 minutes.

My Favourite Prompts

Copy these and swap in your own details.

Product demo:

Create a 20-second product demo video for [App Name]. Here's the product overview document [attach doc] and the website [paste URL]. I need: a hook scene with the problem statement, a brand reveal with the logo and tagline, 3-4 feature scenes showing the app in action with animated phone mockups, smooth transitions between scenes, and a CTA at the end. Use the brand colors from the website. Add background music and sound effects for transitions. Vertical format (1080x1920).

App walkthrough:

Create a 30-second app walkthrough video showing [App Name] in action. Take these screenshots [attach screenshots] and animate them inside phone mockups. Add text overlays explaining each screen. Smooth slide transitions. Background music. End with a download CTA. Vertical format for Reels/TikTok.

Social media ad:

Create a 15-second social media ad for [Product]. Start with a bold text hook on screen for 2 seconds. Cut to the product in action with animated text callouts. Show 3 key benefits with icon animations. End with the logo and a CTA button animation. Fast-paced, high energy. Vertical format.

Explainer:

Create a 30-second explainer video about [Topic]. Start with the problem (text + simple animation). Show the solution with step-by-step animated graphics. Use a clean, minimal style with [brand colors]. Add subtle background music. Include text overlays for every key point. Horizontal format (1920x1080) for YouTube.

Reel/short edit:

Edit this video clip [attach file] into a vertical reel. Add bold subtitles, a hook text overlay in the first 2 seconds, smooth cuts between sections, and background music. Make it punchy and fast-paced. 30 seconds max. Export as vertical 1080x1920.

Tips For Better Output

These patterns consistently produce the best results from Remotion + Claude Code:

  • Give Claude reference documents: a product overview, website URL, or brand guidelines. More context means better output.
  • Share real screenshots and assets. Claude will animate them inside device mockups. Real UI beats placeholder graphics.
  • Ask for sound effects and background music. Audio makes a massive difference in perceived quality.
  • Watch the real-time preview and give specific feedback. "Scene 3 is too slow." "Make the phone mockup bigger." Each round gets closer to professional quality.
  • Keep videos short. 15-20 seconds for ads, 20-30 seconds for demos. Shorter is easier for Claude to nail and performs better on social.
  • You can also use Remotion to edit existing reels and shorts: add subtitles, transitions, text overlays, and music to clips you've already filmed.

What I built: I used this to build the entire product demo for Stock Whisper. A 20-second video with 7 animated scenes, phone mockups, brand reveal, scene transitions with sound effects, and background music. All I gave Claude was my product overview document and a link to the website. It took about 5 minutes.
