One selfie. Three prompts. A salon lookbook style breakdown with 5 hairstyles for your face shape, the perfect glasses, and a personal color analysis. Save the bad cut, the LensCrafters hour, and the wardrobe guesswork.

What You'll Learn

  • The editorial salon-lookbook prompt that renders 5 hairstyles as one magazine-style composite image
  • How to take a selfie that gives ChatGPT what it actually needs
  • The bonus glasses prompt that matches your face shape
  • The bonus color analysis prompt that gives you your personal palette
  • What to do with the recommendations (the screenshot-to-stylist handoff)

Why This Works

Hairstylists charge $50 to $300 to recommend a cut, and most of that recommendation is based on something they look at for 10 seconds: your face shape. ChatGPT can do the same analysis from a selfie in 30 seconds, with zero ego, and give you 5 options instead of 1, rendered as a salon-grade lookbook image you can take straight to the chair.

The six primary face shapes (oval, round, square, heart, oblong, diamond) each pair best with specific cut lengths, layering patterns, fringe shapes, and parting styles. ChatGPT identifies your shape from a clear front-facing selfie and matches you against the rules for that shape, then surfaces the cuts that fit, with reference images for each.

What this replaces: the salon consultation. The Pinterest scrolling. The hair-mag flipping. The friend who "kind of has a cosmetology background." One selfie, one prompt, five styles, done.

Step 1: Take The Selfie

Selfie quality is the single biggest variable. A bad selfie gives bad recommendations. Three things matter:

  1. Front-facing, eyes level with the camera, not from above or below
  2. Clear lighting, ideally natural light from a window
  3. Hair pulled back or tucked behind ears so the jawline and forehead are visible

No filters, no Snapchat effects, no makeup-heavy photos. ChatGPT needs the actual shape.

Step 2: The Hairstyle Prompt

Open ChatGPT (chat.openai.com). Drop your selfie into the chat. Paste this prompt:

You're a senior celebrity stylist creating a salon lookbook style guide for me. Here's my selfie.

PART 1 (write first, as text): Tell me my face shape, the 3 proportions that define it, 3 hairstyle structures that flatter it, 2 to avoid, and one principle that would change my whole vibe.

PART 2 (one composite image, editorial): Generate ONE image styled like a Vogue Hair editorial. 3-on-top, 2-on-bottom grid. 5 portraits of me with the same face, same studio backdrop (warm gray seamless), same neutral wardrobe (black knit), only the hair changes. Vary cuts dramatically: clean professional, modern textured, bold statement, low-maintenance, long flowing length. Editorial typography (serif masthead, sans body), cream background, single warm accent color. Header: STYLE BREAKDOWN. Footer: ranking from most to least flattering. Use image_gen exactly ONCE. My facial features must be IDENTICAL across all 5 cells. Do BOTH parts in this same response. Don't ask follow-ups, execute.

ChatGPT will name your face shape, write the breakdown, then render the lookbook composite image. You get a magazine-grade reference page you can screenshot and take straight to your stylist. Each cut is labeled with a name and ranked at the bottom by what flatters you most.

Step 3: Screenshot To Stylist

Pick one or two of the rendered hairstyles. Screenshot the lookbook image and the written breakdown. Send both to your hairstylist before your appointment, or pull them up at the chair. The image makes it impossible to be misunderstood.

What to say at the chair: skip the "just a trim, but make it different" speech. Show the lookbook image. Say: "this cut, this length, this styling." Stylists love this because it removes ambiguity. You walk out with the cut you actually wanted.

Bonus 1: The Glasses Prompt

Same selfie, second use case. Don't upload a new photo. In the same ChatGPT chat (so it remembers your face shape), paste this:

Using the same face shape, recommend 4-5 glasses frame styles that would look best on me. Generate ONE composite image: my selfie in the center, the 5 frames arranged around it as labeled portraits (same face, same lighting, only the frames change). For each: name the frame shape (aviator, round, square, cat-eye, etc.), describe the color and material that works, explain why it complements my face shape, and suggest 1-2 brands that carry that style. Editorial typography, warm cream background. ONE image, image_gen tool used ONCE.

ChatGPT picks frames using the same face shape it already identified, so the recommendations are consistent. Save yourself an hour at LensCrafters and walk in knowing exactly what to try on first.

Bonus 2: The Color Analysis Prompt

Same selfie, third use case. This is the trending color analysis everyone's paying $200+ for in person. ChatGPT can do it for free in the same chat. Paste this:

Using the same selfie, do a personal color analysis on me. Identify my season (Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter, and the variant: true, light, soft, deep, warm, or cool). Generate ONE composite image: my selfie at the top, 12 colors that flatter me arranged as labeled swatches in a grid below. Group them: 4 best colors (clothing/hero pieces), 4 neutral colors (basics), 4 colors to avoid. Each swatch labeled with hex code and a use case. Include a 1-line reason why each group works (or doesn't) for my season. Same magazine-editorial typography as the hairstyle lookbook. ONE image, image_gen tool used ONCE.

Now you have your full personal palette. Use it for clothing, accessories, even paint colors and home goods. Most people guess for years. You'll know in 30 seconds.

What This Doesn't Replace

ChatGPT analyzes face shape and visible coloring. It can't analyze hair texture (curly, fine, thick, coarse), scalp issues, or growth patterns. A good stylist still adds value here. The prompt makes the conversation better, not the stylist obsolete.

Bring both: walk in with the lookbook image AND your stylist's expertise. Show them the recommendations. Ask which ones work for your hair texture and growth pattern. The combination beats either alone.
