Stop building apps that look like AI slop. One Claude skill turns Google Stitch into your full-stack app designer, and the setup takes under 2 minutes. This lesson walks you through the full setup and the exact workflow for apps, websites, and software.

What You'll Learn

  • Set up the Stitch MCP in Claude Code in under 2 minutes
  • Turn Claude into a full-stack app designer
  • Redesign existing projects from AI slop to professional product
  • Best use cases for building beautiful apps and websites

What Is Google Stitch?

Google Stitch is an AI-powered design canvas that generates full UI designs from text prompts, screenshots, or URLs. It builds layouts, color palettes, typography, and interactive components. Every element is editable. Prototypes are instant. Responsive previews work across devices.

When you connect Stitch to Claude Code via the Stitch MCP, Claude becomes a full-stack app designer. It can create design boards, generate complete design systems, and redesign existing projects, all from a single prompt.

Setup: Connect Stitch To Claude Code

Step 1: Create a Google Stitch account and API key

Go to Google Stitch and create an account. Then go to Settings, scroll to the API section, and create an API key. Copy this key, you'll need it for the next step.

Step 2: Install the Stitch MCP in Claude Code

Go to the Google Stitch MCP documentation page and find the Claude Code install command. Copy and paste it into Claude Code along with your API key. Claude will set up the MCP server for you. Restart Claude Code and you'll see Stitch connected as an available tool.

What the MCP gives you

Once connected, Claude can list your Stitch projects, fetch individual screens, read the HTML and CSS from your designs, and access your design system, all without leaving Claude Code. No copying files. No switching tabs. Just tell Claude what to design.

How To Use It

Design from scratch

Describe how you want your app to look and Claude will use Stitch to create full UI designs: layouts, colors, fonts, interactive components. You can also give Claude screenshots or reference URLs and it will design based on those.

Redesign existing projects

Take an existing app that looks like AI slop. Give Claude screenshots or point it at your project. Claude uses Stitch to generate a professional design direction, then applies it to your actual codebase. The transformation takes about 5 minutes.

The design.md File

As Stitch generates designs, it automatically creates a design.md file, a markdown document capturing your entire design system. Typography, color palette, spacing, component rules, dos and don'ts. This file is what keeps your designs consistent across your entire project.

Claude Code can read this file and follow it as a reference for every change it makes. As your design evolves, update design.md and Claude maintains consistency automatically.

Best Use Cases

  • Redesign a vibe-coded app that looks generic into something professional
  • Create a full design system for a new project before writing any code
  • Generate responsive web app designs from a single text description
  • Build landing pages, dashboards, and SaaS interfaces that look like real products
  • Maintain consistent design styles across multiple pages and features
  • Create design boards and prototypes to share with clients or team members

The Key Insight

Stitch doesn't just make pretty pictures. It creates real, interactive designs backed by a design system that Claude Code can read and follow. This means the gap between what you design and what gets built disappears. What you see in Stitch is what Claude builds in your app.
